Some dads will be remembered for pushing their kids in sports (motorcross), and others for their unflappable demeanor. I will remember my dad for all these things, but most of all, he trained me how to work. That’s what I have been doing my adult life: working on one badass machining project after another until I landed on the ultimate puzzle – double stack 1911s.
Even the great and powerful John Moses Browning, creator of the 1911, wasn’t satisfied with his creation. He continued to innovate and, by 1927, was granted the patent on the Browning Hi Power. Fast forward to 1994 when Virgil Tripp and Sandy Strayer patented the 2011 (double stack 1911); these two weren’t satisfied either. Their split took double stacks down two different paths. Mass production with polymer grips (STI now Staccato) and super custom with metal grips (SV Infinity). By 2010, the next generation began refining the platform, building on the lessons from the past.
I found myself at Shot Show at the end of this massive leap in innovation for doublestack 1911s between 1994 and 2022. I saw my future and the opportunity to put my mark on this venerable platform by creating a pistol with innovative changes, modern machining, and user-friendly parts and accessories.
As I write this, Miller Precision is moving into its new facility with enough space and power to take on future rounds of badass machining projects. We are never satisfied; we are tinkerers, machinists, gunsmiths, and shooters having a grand old time.
