General firearms Safety and Warnings:
- Before use, learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the firearm you’re using. Not every firearm is the same.
- Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Never point the firearm at anything you don’t intend to shoot.
- Do not exclusively rely on mechanical or visual safeties, as mechanical safeties can fail and you can be mistaken about the safeties position.
- Firearms have design features and mechanical safeties to prevent unintentional discharge if the firearm is dropped or hit. Never exclusively rely on these features and safeties as both can fail. These features are NOT a substitute for proper handling and proper maintenance.
- Always treat firearms as if they are loaded. Always clear a firearm yourself with your finger off the trigger and muzzle pointed in a safe direction even if someone says it’s not loaded.
- Always make sure the firearm is unloaded with the action open before handing it to someone or putting it down.
- Never place your finger on the trigger until you are ready to fire.
- When you pull the trigger, you must expect the firearm to fire. You take full responsibility for your actions.
- Never practice handling, loading, unloading, firing, or using this firearm until you understand its safe operation. Practice with an unloaded firearm or dummy rounds until you are familiar and comfortable with the safe operation of your firearm.
- Never carry a loaded handgun on your person unless you’ve received training from a qualified instructor about drawing, holstering, and carrying a loaded handgun.
- Do not carry a loaded firearm with a live round in the chamber while running, walking, crossing or climbing a fence, stream, ditch, or any other obstacle that poses a risk of slipping or falling. Doing so could lead to a possible unintentional discharge.
- Obey all range rules at all times. Always ensure the firearm is cleared and the action is open until you’re ready to shoot.
- While using your firearm, always wear proper eye and ear protection. Failure to do so could result in serious injury.
- Never act irresponsible or ignore established rules of safety when using firearms.
- Never use a firearm in any matter other than that for which it was specifically designed.
- Never drink alcohol or use drugs prior to or during shooting or handling a firearm. Doing so could affect or impair your vision, coordination, and judgment. There are also legal consequences for doing this.
- Seek a doctor’s advice if you are taking medication before shooting.
Miller Precision Firearms shall not be responsible for any death, physical injury, or property damage that is the result of the proper or improper use of its firearms.
Firearm Storage Warnings:
- Firearms should be stored unloaded when not in use. For increased safety, firearms should also be stored in a secured location (such as a gun safe). Firearms also come with a cable lock to prevent your firearm from going into battery. Ideal storage would be putting the supplied cable lock through the mag well and chamber, and storing the firearm in a secured safe. Firearms should be inaccessible to children or any unauthorized persons. Ammunition should also be locked securely in a different location as well.
- Keep out of reach of children. This product is a firearm and can be a lethal weapon.
- Always store firearms with an empty chamber and magazine. Failure to do so can result in an unintentional discharge.
- If the firearm is not under direct and immediate control, it should be unloaded and rendered inoperable (for example, by use of the supplied cable lock) and is inaccessible to children and unauthorized users.
- Never leave a loaded firearm unattended. Someone, especially a child, may fire it. This could result in death, serious injury, or damage to property.
- Locking devices such as cable locks are an important aid to security, but they are not a substitute for safe firearm handling and storage. Mechanical and locking devices can fail or be bypassed with enough time, knowledge, determination, and equipment.
Ammunition Warnings:
- Only use clean, dry, and high-quality factory-fresh ammunition of the caliber specifically designated for use in your firearm. The caliber in which firearm is chambered is marked on the firearm. Using the wrong caliber of ammunition can be extremely dangerous and may cause the firearm to jam, fail to fire, have an obstructed bore, or generate excessive pressure, which can result in death, serious personal injury, and/or property damage.
- Never use reloaded, hand-loaded, remanufactured, or other non-standard ammunition. These ammunitions may cause the firearm to not function properly and can cause death, serious personal injury, and/or property damage. Use of this ammunition will also void all warranties. Miller Precision Firearms specifically disclaims responsibility for any damage or injury occurring with, or the result of, the use of faulty, reloaded, handloaded, remanufactured, other non-standard ammunition, or use of cartridges other than those for which the firearm was originally chambered.
- Do not use +P+ ammunition, as this ammunition could exceed pressure maximums established by sporting arms and ammunition manufactures’ institute inc. (SAAMI) and result in an unsafe condition that may cause death, serious personal injury, and/or property damage.
- Although the Ranger 9 firearm is capable of functioning properly with +P ammunition in the appropriate caliber, it is not recommended to use +P consistently as this ammunition may affect wear characteristics, shorten the life and endurance of your firearm, and require more frequent maintenance and replacement of parts.
Lead Warnings:
- Discharging firearms in poorly ventilated areas, cleaning firearms or handling ammunition may result in exposure to lead and other substances known to cause birth defects, reproductive harm, cancer, and other serious physical injury. Have adequate ventilation at all times. Wash hands thoroughly after exposure.
- Warning- this product can expose you to chemicals including lead, which is known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.p65warnings.ca.gov.
Eye and Hearing Protection Warnings:
- Always wear appropriate safety glasses when shooting firearms to protect your eyes. Ensure everyone around you is also wearing appropriate eye protection to protect their eyes from serious injury including potential blindness. Eye protection at minimum should provide impact protection that meets the requirements of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard Z87.1. unprotected eyes can be injured by fragments, power, metallic particles, gas, or other debris expelled from the firearm, ejected cartridge cases, ruptured cartridge cases, and/or splash back from targets, target frames, or backstops.
- Always wear adequate commercially manufactured ear protection when shooting to protect your hearing. Ensure everyone around you is also wearing ear protection to protect their hearing. Ear protection should provide, at minimum, a noise reduction rating (NRR) of 24 decibels (Db). Unprotected exposure to gunshot noise can cause permanent hearing loss and/or tinnitus.
Firing Warnings:
- Always ensure the barrel and action are clear of obstructions before shooting. Shooting a blocked firearm with an obstructed bore can result in death, serious personal injury, and/or damage to the firearm and/or other property.
- Always be aware of your target and what is behind it. Make sure the backstop is adequate to stop bullets prior to shooting.
- NEVER shoot at any hard or flat surface, such as rock, metal, or water. Doing so can result in a ricochet that can cause death, serious personal injury, and/or property damage.
- When you are done shooting, immediately unload and clear your firearm. Doing so will reduce the chance of a negligent discharge.
- When clearing the firearm, allow the ejected round to fall freely out of the firearm onto a soft and clean surface. Do not cover the ejection port with your hand and try to catch the round as it ejects. Doing this can result in serious injury.
- Make sure all other shooters and bystanders are well away from the ejection port when shooting semiautomatic firearms. Empty cases are hot and are under force. They may cause injury if someone is struck by an empty cartridge.
Malfunction/Jam warnings:
- In case of a failure to fire, continue to hold your firearm with the muzzle pointed downrange for at least 30 seconds. If after 30 seconds, the round has not fired, a hangfire (slow primer ignition) may be the cause. If after 30 seconds the round still hasn’t fired, remove the magazine and clear the firearm while keeping it pointed in a safe direction, keeping the ejection port away from your face, eyes, and other body parts. Examine the ejected, unfired cartridge. If the firing pin indentation on the primer appears normal (compared to previously fired cartridges) the cartridge may be defective. Separate the cartridge from other live ammunition, reload your firearm, and continue shooting.
- If a bullet is in the bore or lodged in the barrel (a squib load), Never attempt to shoot it out using another cartridge, a blank round, or a cartridge with the bullet removed. Such actions can cause death, serious personal injury, and/or property damage.
- When attempting to clear a malfunction, always wear eye protection.
- If you encounter a jammed action, never force it. Doing so could cause the round to explode potentially resulting in death, serious personal injury, and/or property damage.
- Do not use a metal tool to attempt to remove an unfired cartridge. Doing such could ignite the primer and fire or rupture into fragments out of the ejection port with sufficient force that could cause death, serious personal injury, and/or property damage.
Maintenance Warnings:
- Always make sure the firearm is unloaded before disassembling it for cleaning, adjustments, or other services.
- Always wear appropriate eye protection when disassembling, cleaning, lubricating, and assembling your firearm to protect your eyes from parts under pressure such as springs and cleaning fluids.
- Do not disassemble your firearm beyond a field strip specified for your firearm. Doing so can result in damage to your firearm and/or affect its safety, reliability, or performance and may result in an unsafe condition that could cause death, serious personal injury, and/or property damage. An improperly assembled firearm is dangerous and should not be fired.
- The Ranger 9 firearm was designed to function properly in its original condition. Altering, adding, or substituting parts may affect the reliability, safety, and performance of your firearm and create a risk of death, serious injury, or property damage.
- Always make sure your firearm is in top working condition and that no internal or external parts have been damaged due to corrosion, improper maintenance, or dropping.
- Do not oil cartridges or spay lubricants, preservatives, or cleaners on cartridges or where excess spray can come into contact with cartridges. Lubricates and other foreign matter and cause potentially dangerous ammunition malfunctions. Particularly, these agents can penetrate the primers, potentially causing misfires. To prevent these issues, ensure no oil or solvent remains in the firing pin channel, on the breach face, or in the magazine.
- Regular cleaning and maintenance of your firearm is important. Your firearm should be cleaned and lubricated after every use. Even if the firearm is not used, it should be cleaned and lubricated every 6 months to ensure its reliability and readiness.
